Most Amazing City Ever
July 31, 2005 on 8:31 pm | In Travelogue | No CommentsBar none, hands down, Prague is the most beautiful city I’ve ever seen in my whole life. I had an absolutely, completely, and utterly fantastic time. I’ll reiterate that it’s really nice to have rich friends that pay for everything. THAT made the city even better.
However, warning, don’t even order a mixed drink with ice. We all got stomach ailments, we assume from having Czech ice. I was, of course as a Hutchinson, the sickest of everyone. I actually was miserably ill for almost the whole day yesterday. I FLATLY refused to let it ruin my trip, though.
Prague castle was just spectacular, as was Karlov-most (the famous bridge), Tiy’s church … WOW. Just, wow. The pictures speak for themselves.
Additionally, the night life is QUITE rockin, and I have to admit that I saw the sunrise every morning this weekend, from staying out clubbing that late. Whoooo!
Cleanliness rating
July 31, 2005 on 8:31 pm | In Travelogue | No CommentsBrussels was the dirtiest — a TOTAL dump.
Munich was the cleanest, though London runs a very tight race with it.
Dublin and Prague both hover somewhere in between those two endpoints.
Seeing the difference in standard of living was really interesting. Needless two say, the Czech Republic is nearly Second World, especially when compared to Germany. But I loved Prague most, regardless.
When we were out, I actually met a guy that worked for the *original* Budweiser, the one made in Czech. This is the one whose name Anheuser-Busch was crooked enough to steal, and arrogant enough to try to sue them for exclusive rights. Oldest brewery in the entire world, and American Big Business is trying to steal, corporate-cookie- cutter-Britney-Spears-mass-produce it. Nice. Anyway, the guy was from, NO KIDDING, TEMPE ARIZONA — raised a conservative Mormon. Visited Prague and decided never to leave because Budweis needed a promoter. Wow. JEALOUS!
Trains are so cool.
July 29, 2005 on 4:55 pm | In Travelogue | No CommentsAnd I get to enjoy 6 hours on this one to Prague. The Bavarian (”Bayerisch”) countryside is so pristinely bucolic — classic rolling green hills of wheat & barley, dotted with charming villages of tudor- styles and onion-domed churches. It’s a good thing too, because it’s the only thing making this billion-percent-humidity and 95 degrees tolerable. Barely. I don’t know if three years of Arizona has spoiled me this much, or if the humidity here really *is* worse, but I swear I don’t ever recall the humidity being this bad even in New Orleans (much less in Georgia). I feel like I’m in a jacuzzi, literally swimming.
We’re picking up passengers now at Regensburg. On the way in I could tell it was a lovely little place.

But since Corey’s gotten us rooms at the Hilton with his Hilton bonus points, I have a good feeling that I will. Guess you’ll know be 10pm tonight or so. Europe time. That’s GMT +1 (NYC is GMT -5, Phx is GMT -8).
