MY NEW PODCAST, alienEthOS

September 4, 2005 on 5:43 am | In Travelogue | No Comments

A couple weeks ago my friend Kevin asked me if I’d like to temporarily co-host a podcast show with him, revolving around the more serious issues addressed in sci-fi media. Naturally, I responded “TEMPORARILY?? You don’t think I want to co-host it FOR ALL TIME?!?!?!” We decided to call it alienEthOS: The Ethics of Sci-fi.

Some of you out there, like my parents, may ask “What the heck is a podcast?” It’s kind of like TiVO for radio. People record an audio- only show, then post it on a website. Then avid listeners download it to their portable music players (like iPods or Rios) and listen to it at their own convenience, able to pause as they so desire. The good podcasters eventually have their regular shows pointed to by popular music applications like iTunes, which can then automatically download your favorite weekly shows without you lifting a finger. You can find out how to subcribe here.

We’ve recorded and posted our first show, and we’ve begun promotion as well. I’m very optimistic about our chances, as we both had a great time, and improved immensely just in the course of recording one show. If anyone else out there’s a sci-fi geek, go grab it and listen!

ASU OPENS DORMS & CLASSES to HURRICANE KATRINA VICTIM STUDENTS

September 1, 2005 on 11:05 pm | In Travelogue | No Comments

In a directive from our university president, Arizona State University has opened its dormitories and classes to Katrina victims who were students in New Orleans. This includes all of ASU’s Schools, including Law.
An expedited registration has been instituted. Private community individuals also are taking in some of these students.
For more information, please see the website above, or email registrar@asu.edu (or myself, kade@asu.edu).

East Valley Water Forum

August 18, 2005 on 8:35 pm | In Travelogue | No Comments

Today is my first day of actually meeting the East Valley Water Forum people that I’ll be working with closely. My job is actually to act as a sort of liaison between them and the Decision Theatre. In the future, I’ll be spending lots of time over in Mesa (near home!), being ASU’s man on that side of the equation.
They were really nice. The two main ones are ladies from Mesa. I’m looking forward to both of them — I have to say, working for women is always so much more pleasant than men.
Everyone on this project, especially on the EVWF side, are really enthusiastic and positive, it seems like it could be a really fun project. I am REALLY excited! Yayyyy! :-) K

First day

August 16, 2005 on 11:00 pm | In Travelogue | No Comments

Today is my first day at ASU’s Decision Theatre. So far I’m having a very nice day. I’ll be working close with one of my two closest friends here, which is exciting.
However, what’s most exciting is that it should allow me to make some use of the research I did over the last two years, *and* incorporate sustainable development policy/decision-making.
This is ideal, because sustainable development policy is the direction I want to go in the future, specifically with getting a PhD after this masters. So finding this job is allowing me to salvage some of my work over the last two years, *and* head me in the right direction for my future studies.
YEEEEEUH!!
